Quick Start
More help to follow later, here's the basics to get you started.
Default key presses:
If you prefer, these can be changed under the options/Configure keys menu.
Recommended usage on a 6630 is 4 & 6 or 5 & 7 for left and right. Then slip your fingers down to '*' or '#' if you need reverse or to lift the throttle. Rocking the cursor back and forward is harder to co-ordinate than using two separate keys. Leave the auto throttle feature enabled and all you normally need to do is steer (and occasionally reverse out of the barriers if you get it wrong).
But there's far far more to driving successfully than that, see driving tips for more info.
Graphics configuration
The first time you try and practice or race the game will automatically calibrate the graphics for you to give a decent frame rate on your phone. As this is still a Beta release can't promise it will get the settings just right on all phones. If the frame rate appears sluggish, or the graphics are fast but lacking textures or detail, have a peek in the options/graphics menu and see what they're set to. Here you can turn on and off features to get a combined frame rate and graphics quality balance that works best on your phone. If the auto configure option doesn't give you a good result drop us a line on the feedback form, thanks.
Practice
Lets start with practice, by default it will currently launch you onto the Dirtball circuit in a racer car. If you prefer an easier car you can switch the formula to Rookie, or to go straight in at the deep end you can go for Elite. Now select a circuit, Dirtball's one of the best tracks, but not one of the easiest, move the cursor onto tracks and use left and right to access the track selector. If you're planning on racing on the Ape Town track which is available in the demo game you can select that, or else just explore the varying tracks on offer.
Select go on the practice menu and off you go, with auto throttle enabled you'll instantly be launched off the line and away you go. Come to a corner, turn left, come to the next, turn left again, easy isn't it. Actually not, getting around a lap might be easy, winning takes just a little more than getting around in one piece, but it's a goods start. Races in this game, usually one by tenth's if not hundredth's of a second, every fraction of a second counts, so now try and work on your lap time, watch the clock, it keeps a record of you're best time during the session. Ready to quit, just press either of the left or right select buttons then arrow down to quit game.
Race
Ok, ok, that was easy you think you want to go racing, select race from the main menu, if you want to stick with with the Rookie formula just hit go you're racing. First thing you'll find is that line you practiced taking is blocked by those pesky other racers. Second once you've found you're way past one or two of them is they don't fight very fairly, they'll barge you straight back out the way. This racing larks not as easy as it first appeared is it. Get yourself off to the driving tips section, you're going to need to learn how to fight it out on track as well as how to do a good lap on your own.
Replay
You've driven a race you're proud of and got a good result? Well done, why not replay it in it's full glory, simply select replay from the main menu then you can either sit back and watch letting the director control the cameras for you. Or else you can take charge yourself and use the up/down keys to switch through the various cameras, you'll find onboard, front and rear bumper cams, two or three track track side cameras plus overhead crane and blimp cameras. You can also use left and right to switch which car is being watched, might be useful to see what lines the AI cars are using if they're beating you.
That should be enough to have got you started, have fun, sure you will.
