Oval Racer FAQ
General
I'm having a problem typing in my registration code.
If you're phone doesn't have keys for numeric values by default you may need to hold down an alt key while typing the numbers in.
I've installed the app but can't find it.
Phones put installed apps into a variety of different folders, here's a few examples to check for, S60: "My own", "Applications", "Installations. On UIQ phones try under "Tools", nope doesn't make sense here either, but that's where you'll most likely find it.
Gameplay
I've played it a lot and I win too easily now.
When setting up a single race go into "More options" and set the AI level to Super Elite, you'll find it quite a bit tougher.
For a championship, select Custom, then go into "More options" and, as above, set the AI level to Super Elite.
If you're phone can handle it, add more cars, winning a 32 car Super elite race from the back of the grid is not going to be easy for anyone.
I like the faster Elite cars, but it's too hard to win.
When setting up a race go into "More options" and set the AI level to Rookie or Racer. By default the AI level gets higher as you select faster cars, but under "more options" you can change to a specific level. This allows you to race the rookie cars against tougher opponents, or Elite cars against easier opponents.
For a championship, select Custom, then go into "More options" and, as above, set the AI level to Rookie (easiest) or Racer (medium).
Alternatively, accept you can't win, but keep working hard to finish as close to the front as possible, racing against strong opponents is a good discipline and helps you raise your game and drive faster.
The other cars are too mean, they keep slamming me into the barriers.
Yup, this is a tough game to play, but here's some suggestions.
I selected a 40 car race and it runs too slow.
Different phones have different hardware capabilities. On the lower powered phones it's only really practical to run 6 or 10 car races. On hardware accelerated phones such as the Nokia N93 and N95 it can easily cope with 32 car grids, but 40 cars even pushes the capabilities of these phones, either turn some graphic options down or stick to 32 cars.
UIQ
The volume is very quiet, even though it's set to 'High'
On UIQ phones there's a master volume control for the whole phone, games can't override this. From the main phone application screen look for the triangular icon (probably top or bottom left), click this and select 'volume'. Now set the multimedia level up higher until you get the right volume level.
What's the "GLWorkaround" advanced option for?
A bug on some UIQ phones causes the track surface when untextured to display incorrectly. This is particularly noted from the bumper and onboard views. Disabling the workaround can give a small performance boost, but you mind the track surface displaying incorrectly, if so just turn it back on again.
